Bring chaos into your practice

I designed my Chaos Run to introduce physical and mental stress, putting my hard skills to the test. The drill is challenging and designed to:

  • Pressure test my focus by completing a complex course of fire under physical stress

  • Ensure proper implementation and maintenance of hard skills as I fatigue

  • Hone my ability to rebuild proper grip structure and grip pressure after disconnecting over and over again

  • Practice picking up my focal point and getting the gun up early as I’m entering a position so I can shoot sooner

Life is made of patterns and within these patterns there are unexpected and unpredictable occurrences. Development is not linear or static. Life and growth are similar processes and it is out of the chaotic aspects of life that we find our greatest growth potential.

The Chaos Run is staged with four cones set in a diamond pattern spaced 8 yards apart. Cone 1 is set at 5 yards, Cone 2 at 10 yards, Cone 3 at 15 yards, and Cone 4 at 10 yards. The pattern is: 1-2, 1-2-3, 2-1, 2-3-4, 3-2-1, 2-3-4-1. Remembering the sequence and running it nonstop is part of the challenge.

This drill has both performance value and defensive utility. I use it to push development of my hard skills so that I’m ready for any context needed.
